My pareidolia photography reveals how we can capture magical, ephemeral street scenes by focusing on unexpected, often-taken-for-granted, pre-existing juxtapositions of inanimate elements like asphalt and street paint, or sidewalk sealant and cement.
Celebrating the neglected and often stepped upon, my photos of unchanged scenes appear like paintings or found art through my camera lens and pareidolia vision -- the ability to see meaning out of the random.
From yearning for a better world, to remembering lost friends, finding love, tenderness and connection, or overcoming divisiveness and anxiety, these photos are an abstract expression of what street photography can represent.
Much of what I photograph is ephemeral. In just moments, the wind, rain, sun or a person’s foot can cause what I digitally captured to shift or disappear.
Like Surrealist and abstract artists, I want to question our default understanding, shift habitual perceptions of reality, and tap into our creative unconscious. Included Sources and Elements are a metaphor for what we overlook or disregard.
Through my free-associated imagery, I hope to share my passion and gift of seeing what we did not see before.
