The Public Market

Plaza. Piazza. Souq. Square. Medina. The grand public squares and plazas are transformed by commerce. The daily life of a town's residents can often be seen intersecting this space at least once a day. As a travel photographer and writer, the main public square or market is often my first stop in any city. And while the focus of daily life takes place within these public spaces, I focus on the margins of that space. Along the perimeter of these notable places, we find the stories of daily life. We find what makes that place memorable...at that moment in time. The written word is a powerful tool for conveying these human stories. But the lens captures it in an instant. The result is a unique, authentic moment that will never be created again.
