I am an immigrant, a survivor and a New Yorker. Ever since I have moved here l noticed that native New Yorkers do not say 'see you later', they, say: 'be safe'! I have never used it myself; as a new transplant, I did not 'owe' it. This past year I caught myself saying 'be safe' more and more. I don't just say it, I FEEL it! All my fellow New Yorkers, especially the ones at the front lines: store clerks, artists, teachers, entertainers, bus drivers, bank tellers, nurses, sanitation workers, crazy dudes on the train, homeless on the sidewalks, and all the rest of us: BE SAFE and ¡Covid no pasara!
This humble submission is a testament to my wise, resilient and humane City! All images were taken within the last year. I wanted to emphasize that pandemic, or not, we take care of ourselves and others, we vigilantly resist racism, we do what needs to be done, we love life and we love the City we live in!
