These images of abstract urban landscapes are emotional representations of myself and what I reflect. My constant struggle between control and surrender are illustrated within these composed scenes.
We live in a culture where the words “control” and “strength” are synonymous, and the concept of perfectionism is ideal. As a child that grew up in a chaotic and tumultuous environment, I was particularly susceptible to and deeply affected by this way of thinking. Now, as an adult, with my camera in hand, I go into the world to observe, to be present and to let go. I allow my intuition to guide me without judgement, and I photograph with only artistic design in mind. Line, color, and composition work together to create these emotional geographical landscapes. Minimal Photoshop work is used and, although these images are abstract, I do not manipulate or alter them in order to create abstraction.
These images expose the idea that control and fear are one in the same, and that courage comes from letting go.
