In 2019, I had the opportunity to travel to Tokyo before the Covid-19 lockdown. As the city hurriedly prepared for the Olympic Games, there was a city-wide effort to make visitors feel welcome, as well as being especially open to conversation and interaction. It was an ideal time to be in the city.
This portfolio documents a fraction of the subjects that I encountered in seven days. My goal was an end portfolio that would document Tokyo's constant amalgamation of modernity with tradition, while simultaneously depicting detailed portraits of its citizens, spaces and objects
