The Tokyo Olympics were held without spectators under the state of emergency of COVID-19. The new stadium was surrounded by bleak iron bars, and a savage police force cut off the bubble world where infection was controlled, and our everyday life which is now under the emergency. Athletes from all over the world fought a fierce battle on the other side of the bars, giving us excitement and hope. However, I could only watch it on TV. It was a parallel world as if I were watching a foreign broadcast instead of watching here in Tokyo.
The spread of the pandemic should not be due to athletes, let alone those who gather to take commemorative photos with the frustration of not being able to see the events of the century in front of them. I don't know if this government practice or our actions are really right. But if there were any mistakes, I wanted to keep this spectacle so that we wouldn't repeat the same mistakes in our future.
