Distorting the Human Perspective

The intricate details of our environment define our individual perception of the world. Within this project, I abstracted the recognizable to create a world we are unfamiliar with, but our eyes see the truth behind it. I altered the idea of the figure-ground relationship of the human body using dynamic posing, lens distortion, and lighting. The simple background, with only hints of grounding, helps elevate the figures into a place where physics don’t apply. Eliminating color obscures edges of the models’ bodies causing them to further interact with the background and the patterned clothing redefines some of those lines. Through my artistic choices, I lead the viewers to reconsider their idea of reality.
