I am as much influenced by painters as I am by other photographers. Mainly Edward Hopper, but I am also inspired by the works of Henry Ossawa Tanner, and Ashcan School painters such as John Sloan and George Bellows (though I must add Hopper rejected the characterization as part of this informal art movement). In these works, I attempt to express daily life in an urban environment using elements of chiaroscuro of the Dutch Masters, the social realism of the Ashcan School, as well as the magical pre-expressionism of Turner and Blake.
