Strolling through the city it's easy to find yourself distracted by strangers standing in front of you. Who are these mysterious people lingering on street corners and subway stairs before us every day? Can we intuit anything about these local wanderers only by looking at their movement, their clothing, their sense of style?
These photographs emphasize the element of suspense that comes into play while we study strangers in busy urban environments. Oblivious to the observing camera, these urban residents become protagonists who showcase their vulnerability. Gazing around at the backs of heads and shoulders on the streets we find ourselves engaged in a form of forced voyeurism. In my photos these unsuspecting passersby are captured in a moment, frozen in time as protagonists on their personal journeys. The things not said and the features not seen tend to create a mysterious and poetic halo around the subject. And despite the intimate presence of the subject in these photos, they are still anonymous. Once that fleeting moment passes, we are left only with the poetry of a passing moment.
