The community gardens is a place where gardeners from across the city come for a peaceful, quiet place to garden. It is an open place with uninterrupted sun and serves as a resting place for migrating birds. In the spring and summer gardeners, old and young, come to coax plants to grow.
I visit the community gardens early in the morning, during each of the seasons. I find peace there and great beauty, especially when it is deserted.
Most of these photos show the gardens on off times. You won't find photos of vegetables her, but you will find the tools that gardeners use and you will see the gardens at off times; in the winter, the fall; after gardeners have turned in their shovels and spades for the season.
I am interested in the use of space in the gardens. It is public space, yet private. Individual borders are managed differently by each garden owner. Gardeners will bring various interesting items that become part of this public/ yet private space.
