I've lived alone for so long. I thought I would die alone.
When I met my wife I learned what it means to have a family but also learned the fear of loss.
So I decided to take pictures with a large format film camera in order to spend as much time as possible interacting with the fragments of life that I love.
It was just the time when the town was undergoing a major transformation before the Tokyo Olympics. The townscape and lifestyle that I loved were slowly disappearing.
The title "Ukima" refers to the name of the place in Tokyo where my wife and I live. I guess that's what someone called the place between the two rivers, and that's how it was named.
In Japanese, "UKI" means floating, and "MA" means space.
