Eyes Of Trauma: Anfal Campaign

Anfal genocide, 1986, Iraq. The attention goes to the eyes, the eyes can reveal previous trauma, as Cardiff University research shows. But also the ones that witnessed the genocide carried out by the government of Saddam Hussein against the Kurdish population. Eyes are closed… memories, flashbacks, and moments of those years characterized by military operations and chemical attacks, culminating with the bombing of the city of Halabja in which more than 5000 people lost their lives, and even more, families dispersed their loved ones. Eyes are open… the war against their community is over, 35 years have passed, but the pain is still visible in their eyes. Physical damage from chemical bombs adds to the much deeper mental disorder. This Project has been realized in collaboration with Jiyan Foundation. The organization support survivors in Iraq and Syria through medical assistance, psychological treatment, specialized trauma therapy as well as social services.
