My love of photography began in the rolling hills of Germany in 2005 and continues to this day from northern Utah where my I moved to in 2014, over seven years ago. My wife and I enjoyed walking the pristine German countryside after work and eventually I brought an old Canon camera along just for fun. Soon my "fun" became a lot more serious and I didn't know it at the time but my photography odyssey had begun. I couldn't get enough of the quiet beauty of the German countryside and the wonders I encountered along the way. Being an avid reader and voracious when it came to learning all I could I stumbled across a slim westerner whose images spoke a language I understood, Ansel Adams. I don't know what it was that arrested me but just the clarity of what produced...moved me and still does. I believe it was Minor White who said "All photographs are a self portrait" and I hope that is true. I believe my photography reflects my love of what lies all around us and my deep communion with both the quiet beauty of the German countryside that was my home for nine years and the staggering, almost limitless spaces of the western United States, places I never thought I would stand in my wildest dreams. But here I am, still exploring the mysteries that surround us all and using the medium of photography to soothe my soul in a time that is challenging everything I believe in. It is through the medium of photography I keep hope and love beating in my heart.
