The year 2020 will remain in our shared memory as the year in which the entire world was faced with a global pandemic. As the world comes to halt and we are forced to spend time at home. Under the veil of privacy, home is where we can be free or oppressed. Some mourn the loss of connection with others, I turn my gaze inwards and study my current life. Removing the lens of society that magnifies certain roles of women (such as motherhood) I can reflect of the life I have built and shapes me. As a Mexican woman, growing up in a conservative catholic society I realize my identity enmeshes with the collective which is based on social constructs that have historically governed the lives of women.
I started creating small gardens in my studio, constructing installations with beautiful cut flowers and simple wildflowers that I find during my morning walks. Like much of art throughout the ages gardens have provided a canvas to create an atmosphere for the stories in our lives. In the gardens I build the flowers create oneiric scenes are metaphors of my internal exploration.
