Dandara is a series made by the photographer Fabiana Nunes and the Graphic designer Albino Papa. Symbolising the four elements essential to life and mixing with the Sacred geometry creating the patterns that shape the images:
Earth, Water, Air, and Fire plus a fifth element called Quintessence, defined as its purest. Quintessence in this series is us, representing by a mix of all four natural elements creating a new one. That in the future will belong truly to this planet and will honor it, care for it, and preserve it.
In a world attacked by a pandemic and suffering from global warming, the “Dandara” of Fabiana and Albino comes shaped by a strong woman that wants to relive the feminine power that is unbalanced in this patriarchal society. Providing an image of “Sacred Mother Earth” and alerting of the timing to connect the transcendent and healing the planet.
The meaning Dandara, is related to a black female warrior, wife of Zumbi dos Palmares, associated with the figure of a warrior woman and protector of slaves.
Dandara is also the real name of the Brazilian singer portraiture in this series. Decent from black father, and fearless defender of the indigenous people in Brazil.
