I've been fascinated with the island of Cuba since I was 9 years old. In 1997 I began traveling there to see what life was like, to see if the country held the promise of a better life for those who are always left out when Capitalism sets the course for a nation. I lived with a Cuban family for over 15 years, they introduced me to other Cubans when they retired to Spain. I witnessed the island during the "Period Especial,"that is when the Soviet Union dissolved and withdrew its financial, medical, and political assistance. I was also there when the Obama Administration opens doors to travel, and built an Embassy in Havana. I've continued to travel there during the Trump restrictions. I know something about the island, but I know most about the Cuban people, and their willingness to allow my camera into their homes.
