"Windblown leaves
reminded me of all the uncertainties
a wanderer faces"—Basho
I had left a box of notebooks and sketchbooks from many years previous in a place that did not protect them from storms. Years later, when I discovered this, I did what I could to salvage the notebooks, photographing them in the process. Now a number of years further along, I have excavated the photographs for a new time of uncertainty, pulling the images of effaced thought-records into a new view ... delicate threads of memory, reflection, loss ... past and present uncertainties illuminated by intimations of something beyond words.
