One day, when I was walking along a street lined with cherry trees, I found their leaves on the ground, which had fallen off after fulfilled their roles, but still beautiful.
At that time, I’d been thinking of life and death, as my father had already died and my late mother was struggling against the cancer, and I felt it necessary to take photos of the fallen leaves as the evidence of their beautiful lives and began this project “Hitohira”, which means a leaf or a petal in Japanese.
In order to extract their most beautiful essence, I’ve made use of the sunlight at the spot where I found them to take photos by putting them over the pinhole.
Water running in the veins of a leaf, like blood.
Particles glistening with sunlight.
And the warmth of the lives.
These photos are the essence of leaves and petals which lived there and also they became to show my longing to the faraway, the cosmos.
This series is ongoing since 2010.
