The butchers of Accra

The village of butchers is an enclave within the great metropolis of Accra, the capital of Ghana. At the entrance, near the asphalted road, there is a market where cattle, goats and sheeps are traded. They come from the north of Ghana and sometimes from neighboring countries (Burkina Faso, Mali) which are stock-farming areas. Animals are killed and skinned on the beach, on a mound partly made of garbage brought by the ocean. Nearby, women dry fish on barrels. The village is made up of wooden houses. Life is hard. The people must live in the midst of the smoke and acrid odor of burned flesh and horns. This village is probably destined to disappear soon due to the extension of the city.
