My current photographic project is entitled “i am here”. In the past decade or so, the social landscape has changed, a lot. I'm interested in the nuance of our changing landscape and how it looks - how we look. These images are a search to see and record how we've changed. "i am here" is an ongoing series of images photographed in public spaces of people and their phones, interacting on a screen or talking on their phone seemingly unaware of their surroundings. They are often caught in the act of some sort of performance meant to be shared at a later date, or are being shared live, but in each case, these images are simply saying, i am here. These images provocate, they are at once funny and at the same time just a bit horrifying.
My work stems from the genre of street photography. Though my camera, a Rolleiflex 2.8, is rather large and conspicuous for today’s standards, it's a quiet camera and makes moving through public spaces possible without being noticed. You could say I’m obsessed with the smart phone obsession - I have a need to record this time in history with beautiful, artful photographs, where our collective story is being told.
