According to statistics, 1 in 3 women will be violently abused in their lifetime, that is one billion women worldwide. I am. Interrupted is a collection of enthusiastic and humanitarian artists working in collaboration with One Billion Rising who have joined force to speak out against this injustice. Using emotive means in response to these facts, the work demonstrates what is in the heart of each of us. Andrea recognizes art as the most powerful and effective means of not only expression but of revolutionary change. I am. Interrupted’s goal is to undertake the challenge of engaging the audience with a subject that is sometimes considered taboo, such as domestic violence. Andrea's black and white photographs depict emotional response of a woman to physical or/and psychological domestic violence. These photographs visualize the ‘interruption’ of the body and mind and depict the fears, anxieties, sorrows and pain in pure form. Some works present the woman's actions and thoughts in this condition as they are layered with its own contradiction to capture the desire but at the same time impossibility to defend or escape.
