The majority of my career has been as a narrative filmmaker, both non-fiction and fiction. My films have been awarded the Peabody three times and the Alfred E DuPont Award, and have been screened in festivals and theaters around the world. In 2020, my last film, The Dilemma of Desire, premiered at SXSW, and has gone on to screen in over 90 festivals. Many of my films, both documentary and fiction, explored the lives of women and girls revealing the barriers they face in the quest for personal autonomy. I am interested in telling stories that have at their core a driving desire for liberation-- sexual, economic and psychological from the cultural domination of men. When I decided to turn my attention to photography after completing my last film in 2020, my intent was to continue this exploration of the lives of women and girls by exploring the experience of womanhood, through constructed fiction narratives of magical realism.
