TRAVEL TO PERSIA is a photographic project carried out in Iran and inspired by the extraordinary route followed by Spanish ambassador García de Silva y Figueroa to the Court of the Shah of Persia in the 17th Century.
After this two-year tour, García de Silva y Figueroa wrote a detailed book with the best description of Persia at that time. He was the first Westerner to identify the ruins of Persepolis and to identify the cuneiform signs as a writing system. His passionate remarks and thorough explanations make this book one of the most interesting texts about Middle East written by a foreigner in the Modern Age.
Following the notes and comments of this book, the author has made this same tour nowadays. These images are the result of a long research process carried out by Manolo Espaliú over last years and his main goal has been to claim the name of such a relevant figure through a photographic dialogue with Silva’s text.
