GH is a collaborative work between Rodrigo and Gal where they reflect, from their personal experiences, on the existence of LGBTQI+ people who navigate between genders.
At the age of 10, Rodrigo, nicknamed Hiroshima (because she was born on the same day as the bomb) was beated with stones. Her appearance was too ambiguous. At the same time, Gal begins to wear high heels. Today, her non-binary identity is often the reason for stirs in her family. Gal was born on the same day as Harry S.Truman, the US President who dropped the bomb.
GH is made up of different images: archival objects, self-portraits, performance, installations, photos of their childhood, subjective memories. These images are conceived against a backdrop of gender-based violence and disturbing historical and family ties. They give off an intense visual impact because of the metaphors they use in an attempt of defense and autonomy. Like the images of the stones surrounded by foam, collected where Hiroshima lived. A playful way to protect the injured childhood.
The painful beauty of this work reminds us that violence is only possible if it takes place in propitius cultural and political contexts. Brazil is one of
