Valley of the Moon presents a unique and fantastical body of work shot in Jordan’s Wadi Rum desert. Often renowned for its red sands and Mars-like landscape, this series sees photographer Chris Mann depict a new and enigmatic vision of this already otherworldly environment. Tracing the viewers imagination through a surreal and dream-like space, the work presents an intense interplay between man and nature, dark and light; presenting a subjective window into a world unbound by time or place.
Shot entirely on 35mm black and white film in October 2021, every roll has been developed by the photographer before producing silver gelatin prints in the darkroom, which are scanned and attached in this submission. Final prints using fibre based paper are currently being created with the end goal of producing a printed publication of the project, alongside exhibiting the works.
