In 2006, I had the opportunity to travel to Uganda. This trip took me out of familiar surroundings and exposed me to an entirely new culture and environment. As I explored and discovered different neighborhoods and vibrant public spaces, I knew I wanted to make photographs that showed Africa as a dignified and beautiful nation. The East Of The Nile series guided me to make a deeper human connection with the country. As a portrait photographer, I chose to make photographs that showed the complicated individuality and strength of the African people.
