This series looks at the Zion Rock Club, a music venue in the north of Italy which has since closed down.
Mixing portraits and interior details I wanted to explore the idea of constructed identity and how the club itself becomes a kind of frame in which individuals can present a certain persona.
The portraits use a theatrical lighting, a single flash, to emphasize the idea of these being actors on a stage. I simply asked them to stand against the wall and do what they wanted. In the darkness of the club I could see absolutely nothing as I took the photograph and I like the freedom that that allowed.
