The longterm project I'm working on is called Hot dust and The Myth of being A Man.
Statistics are showing that since the mid nineties male suicides have consistently accounted for three quarters of all suicides in the UK. In 2019 it was the highest its been for two decades. This statistic is reflected in my other countries and cultures globally.
My ultimate wish for this work would be to approach it as though I was a visual anthropologist of boyhood. To create a kind of collection, or a typography, of boys experiences. Through this I mean to shed some light on the mental health crisis that men face and how our understanding of the challenges that boys meet growing up my help us determine how best to tackle this issue.
This story of boyhood would be told through portraits and narrative images as well as recorded interviews.
I intend to record the rituals, ceremonies and traditions, of boyhood. I'd like to collect examples from all sorts of different cultures, different communities, religions and lifestyles, from boys all around the world. I believe we are all products of our childhood and by creating a resource, a database visual and anecdotal, of boys experinces we can better understand the male experience.
