On the Path to Freedom

I have met the people in these photographs during my documentary project in 2019 and 2020, investigating the issues of migration through Mexico and Guatemala. The pictures were taken in two migrant shelters: ABBA House, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico, and Casa Del Migrante in Guatemala City. The people in the images trusted me with their stories and I feel it is my duty to spread the word of their experiences and raise awareness of their issues. All the people I have photographed in Mexico, arrived to the migrant shelter on the back of "la Bestia" or "the Beast", a freight train that is notorious for having caused many deaths of Central American migrants since the tightening of travel laws in Mexico aimed at stopping migration.
