Spending Summer

Spending Summer, as a long-sustaining project, started with a private conversation among women concerning the physical changes brought by age. At the very beginning, Xu Mengyao interviewed each of the subjects and extending from dialogues and viewpoints, the Project cuts in the unavoidable reality under the identity of women. However, she finally rejected rhetoric pretensions and chose to construct a speaking right and share emotions only with pictures. Taking woman friends and herself as the subjects, Xu built affinities by use of lens and tried to offend in a limited way. The Project focused on young women, and group self, familial responsibility, and social life were introspected by individuals’ feelings. Senility happens slowly, just like a tattoo leads to hyperplasia on the skin quietly. They overcome the vanity of youth amid the sentiment for time-lapses, think about how to keep their core unaffected by the outside world, and continue living, pursuing, loving, and believing in samenesses and differences. Summer is used to analogizing a life cycle, and from youth to middle age, they always grow lushly.
