As part of an ongoing project, the photographic series, "Modern Indigenous Portraits," aims to merge the traditional world and the modern world of an indigenous person practicing their cultural traditions. Oftentimes when we see a photograph of an indigenous person, they are often dressed in either some form of regalia, headdress or complete regalia outfit. While these photos are beautiful and dramatic to their own accord, they are unrealistic to the daily life of a traditional indigenous person in todays society. For many, learning to maneuver a modern lifestyle while still maintaining a traditional one is a tricky road that leaves many wondering who they are, and what their path is. With these photographs I hope to invite the viewer to understand how these two worlds come together for various events and milestones in a persons life.
