During a year that brought an unprecedented sense of isolation, the time spent on our residency at the Deering Estate provided rare moments of tranquility and normalcy. Even as the “civilized” world was upended, the natural world just seemed to go on as it always has. It was the only place where we felt that nothing had changed. Our need for a connection with nature became more apparent, as did the realization that it had been
sorely missing in our everyday lives.
The photographs which comprise "A Hidden Conversation" are part of a larger multimedia project titled "Eden’s Bridge", which was developed during our time exploring the Deering Estate’s nature preserve. These photographs are a representation of the ephemeral—the transient state of nature that demonstrates its fluidity and fragility, even within the permanence of its existence. They invite the viewer to experience the brief moments that bear witness to the ways in which nature speaks to us. With this project, we hope to bring this inner discourse to light, and prompt viewers to relate to the questions raised by the work and challenge themselves to rediscover the importance of connecting with the natural world.
