This series saw me travel to the remote Yaghnob Valley in North-West Tajikistan. The area is inaccessible for much of the year and can only be entered on foot, taking several days to reach more remote settlements.
The Valley is home to a the Yaghnobi ethnic minority group, who continue to speak their unique language, descended from ancient Sogdian. Their language and customs have faded from other areas of the country.
This series explores the last bastion of preserved Yaghnobi culture and the inevitable threats that modernisation and change have on it.
