The objective of the Cápsula photographic essay was/is to give visibility to archaic work and work relationships that still exist in the contemporary world. To make visible the invisibles of a system that only makes room for those who align themselves with the forces of capital as consumers.
Cápsula was born out of a desire to make visible the toil of workers in unhealthy activities, in the specific case of workers at charcoal plants in the urban center of the city of Rio de Janeiro. However, the universe it encompasses could be in any city or country in a globalized world, where misery, the exploitation of the other and poverty are the products par excellence generated.
The presentation of the Expressive Documentary Capsule Photographic Essay is considered pertinent for the possibility of giving visibility to a reality unknown to the vast majority and that takes place in the heart of the urban center. Reality that was believed to have remained in the past centuries. As stated in the presentation, the fanciful visions of the future in the past indicated an aseptic and functional world where all dangerous or tedious tasks would be performed by robots, while human beings would combine minimum work with maximum leisure. It appears now that none of this happened as expected. The poor, in particular, continue to risk their lives and deteriorate their health in the performance of unhealthy and inhumane tasks. Among the groups that dedicate themselves to these archaic professions.
