We started 2020 with the promise of a new decade and hope for better years ahead. While we celebrated the new year, a novel coronavirus was quietly infecting scores of people far away. It quickly spread across the globe, changing life as we knew it.
We have myriad stories of how it affected the world. We lost loved ones. We became isolated. We lost jobs. Businesses closed. The stock market tanked. The entire planet seemed to shut down.
Most of my work and clients dried up as the pandemic raged. As we each grappled with the unknown dangers of the deadly outbreak, we reacted to it in different ways. While I sat at home contemplating how to safely buy groceries, be financially secure, and function in a world I no longer knew, I wondered how my friends and colleagues were coping with Covid.
I asked people what their lives were like during the pandemic and if I could document what they were going through in the form of images. From our conversations, I picked out small parts of their lives and spun my interpretation of what it was like for them during these times.
Some people had more difficulty dealing with the pandemic than others. They were thrust into circumstances that seemed impossible to overcome. Others were able to adapt and thrive, changing their whole outlook on life. Loss and hope. Pain and healing. We all have stories of how COVID-19 affected our lives. These are vignettes of our pandemic experiences.
