A View from the Road (aka Roadscapes)

This ever grown collection of photographs I make while driving began in my twenties but more recently has grown exponentially starting in 2018 with having more time to take road trips. The open road has been the allure of many Americans ever since the automobile was invented. America has vast stretches of highways and roads waiting for all adventurers with a motor vehicle. I have only begun to traverse 47,000 miles of Interstate Highways. As you look at these 10 photographs of a much larger collection, keep in mind I am driving at the posted speed limits as I instinctually capture the images. I rarely stop because in the time it takes to stop the location or moment of the image is more than 100 yards behind me or gone. My camera is set to the shutter speed, aperture, and focus I desire. I do not raise the camera to my eye for that would distract my driving. When I drive hundreds of miles and hours in a day, I get into a meditative consciousness. I simply point the camera in the direction of what has instinctually caught my eye. Sometime as I speed across the land, I see the scene unfolding in front of me. At times like these I do have more opportunity to pick the moments. The 10 photographs I have chosen shows some of the diversity in my Roadscapes. It also provides a summary of the many photographs I have made while driving. I hope you enjoy A View from the Road.
