Drifting... was first made and presented in 2016, when a large number of refugees from Syria were coming in precarious and dangerous conditions to Europe. News stations were continuously broadcasting dramatic stories about them.
Through this installation I was addressing the theme of empathy in relation to history and violent events, the emotional distress caused by listening and watching the news, when the listener felt powerless in the face of that situation.
On the other hand, not knowing the people in question, many of us took these news as abstract situations. But if you got to know these people directly, their dramas became much more tangible.
