Francesca è Serena

Francesca is Serena Serena Noemi Giglio was born in Zurich on 20th August 2005. Just three months after her birth, infantile cerebral paralysis was diagnosed. Her mother, Francesca Guagliardo, pregnant with two babies (Serena and Davide) was admitted to the Zurich University Hospital during the 33rd week of the pregnancy due to her water breaking. On Wednesday 17th August she entered the Hospital. It was 10AM. 56 Hours after Francescas’ water breaking, Serena was born. One minute later it was Davides turn. “Francesca is Serena” is a project, which aims at showing how an illness can massively effect people’s lives. The project, which is deliberately called “Francesca is Serena”, shows that mother and daughter are the same person. What bonds the two is not only Serena’s desease but also the love between a mother and her child. Today Serena is 9 years old and although the heavy shadow of the human error which took place in the hospital is still there, today Francesca is serenA.
