Growing up I was always taught to be a manly man. Cutting grass doing yard work, working on cars, building houses and farms and doing everything that a man should do. Being vulnerable was never something that was really done by the men around me, unless serious occasions happened. Even when in pain, I found myself not even crying. I remember I fractured my wrist while long boarding and walking home, bruised and cut up and never even shead a tear. I didn’t want anyone to see me in pain or see me cry. For this series, I wanted to make photographs of men being vulnerable and still being unknown in a way that they would feel comfortable. The masks hide their identity from the viewer, so the viewer can focus on how the photo made them feel and not worry about who it is. In every group of photos each man is represented with something that makes them vulnerable in some type of way. Let’s make spaces for men to just be themselves and not be judged in anyway.
