The original question that gave rise to this Project was: What is the "new woman of today", what pattern of femininity does she respond to, what characterises her?
But trying to locate that prototypical woman who embodies the modern model of femininity produced a surprising result: the modern woman is an old woman. And a young woman. And a mature woman. They all live today, at the same time, bearing a more or less heavy past and a more or less light future. And all, without exception, are trying to respond to the multiple roles, models and expectations offered (or imposed?) to them in the modern society.
The challenge of the project is thus double: to reflect, on the one hand, the multiplicity of women who embody the hypothetical "new woman of today"; on the other, to present them photographically in contexts that force the viewer to abandon indifference, seeking compositions that enhance the contrast between expectation and reality, between the suggested or imposed models and one's own free choice.
From the perspective and under the rules of classic street photography (capturing the outside world as it is, with no interference or modification) and always seeking an unusual composition, each photograph in the project aims to suggest a story of femininity, confronting real women of all kinds in contexts that reflect external expectation or social misjudgment.
My project, thus, seeks to focus on them; to expose the external pressure on them; to finally and correctly frame them.
