I am like many other professional Grand Canyon river guides in so much as we come into working the 6-30 day commercial river trips and leave the seasonal job addicted to it, wanting more for all the right reasons.
I have worked the Colorado river, assisting scientists, motion picture crews and guiding of commercial river trips as a freelance Boatman to take advantage of all the photographic opportunities that are there. Once I realized that I could no longer do the job, I was craving more of what Grand Canyon provided. I started to explore what was close at hand on the canyon's South rim. I found the rich human and natural history there to be as engaging as the flora, fauna, and geology, that are integral to the entire place. With this selection of photographs I present to you a small sample from a portfolio that will never be completed. It's full of my exuberance for being a member of a small community, who came to work as a crew member on the Colorado river as a, cook, bottle washer, emergency first aid responder, natural history interpreter and professional Boatmen for as long as I could get away with.
Getting to know "The Great Unknown" is an ongoing project. Here I present but a few of the photographs in my archives.
