This series is the culmination of over a decade of dedicated, concentrated study of the formations liquids create when spatially ejected. Previously I had photographed my creations from a rather standard ¾ view much like photographing a traditional solid sculpture, only made of water. This series explores the “bird’s eye view” of these fluid forms and they quite naturally become radiating Mandalas of color. These images are captures of intentionally conceived synchronous events.
The planning and construction of the set is as much a part of the craft as the final results. Many elements must come together in unison for an image to be successful. Once all these elements are staged and once the actuation begins the results are still a somewhat chaotic interplay of liquids their physical qualities and the forces affecting them.
It is my hope that these images become less about the technical mysteries and more about the interplay of color, transparency, light, time and space.
While digital capture is employed, digital composition or color rendering are not. To do so would diminish the purity of the image and would greatly lessen the impact of the amazing details.
From the initial conception of this series, through planning and construction, I had remained confident that these images had the potential of being both beautiful and intriguing. I want the viewer to be pulled in from a distance by their beauty and be held by the details leaving nose prints on the glass.
