Destiny

A juxtaposition of ordinary street scenes to extract something extraordinary out of the ordinary, a hidden reality that the eye does not see but that the camera reveals. Large areas of strong light and deep shadows, high contrast and negative space, imply the existence in our life of powers beyond our control. Destiny appears in the form of the hair of a girl fluttering in the light breeze and in the form of the the couple of the last picture. The shadows create abstract forms combined with figuration showing people through their posture and movement and the relations between them in space. The background and foreground are as important as the subject. Settings are the scene, selected as simple as possible, surfaces charged with history. The relation between light and shadow, space, silence, timelessness, subject and background, the passing of time, are my favourite themes. All photos are from Strasbourg, France.
