“Upside down” is a photo reportage realized in the Comuna13 of Medellín. It is about the stories of some guys part of the crew Black&White who choose to dance in the midst of the bullets of the pandilleros, the criminal gangs that still control the area. The state’s attempt to clear this district from criminality creates only more bloodshed. These guys are the son of the desaparecidos, the victims of “Operation Orion”, a violent urban military operation that in less than 96 hours it filled up one of the largest mass graves in Latin America, La Escombrera. Many of them, who grew up in resentment and pain, are convinced that the only possible way to heal the deep wounds caused by the murder it is through other violence, by paying for blood with other blood. How to curb the desire for revenge? How can they hinder that low-belly drive that blurs minds and deflects values? Here the breakdance becomes a form of resistence to the underworld and it has a fundamental therapeutic function in order to heal the self from thirty years of violence.
