“Resistencia” is a photos series related to the concept of resistance that I started to develop in Colombia and it continuous to be an ongoing research.
“Resist” nowadays means to fight against new forms of exploitations and abuses, fight for the safety of your own territory, fight to survive the day despite the efforts and the losses, despite the despite of life.
“Resist” in the sense of transforming and creating new realities of peace, resist for believing in the human kind even when the injustice seems to have the upper hand.
Define the meaning of this verb is simple, but the difficult part comes into play in the moment when, we have to act, in the moment when, we’re the ones that have to resist and to rebel against injustices by becoming partisans in defence of freedom.
In this collection are present stories of humans who had the courage to fight for asserting our rights. There are pictures taken from reportages related to reality of desaparecidos - victims of an enforced disappearance - about riots against the police regimes and the abuse of the Colombian state, the photo reportage Upside Down about the breakdance as a form of resistance to the underworld and the story of the native tribe Wayuu and their fight against extinction.
To express the concept of freedom San’Agostino wrote :
“Love, and do what you want”
That “Love” contains also another important concept : “know”.
“Know, and so love and do what you want”
You should consider these stories a vehicle of knowledge, an irreplaceable tool for be always people who are free and aware-, also when the freedom is denied, also when the conscience are being placate.
