Endometriosis is a disease that affects 1 in 10 women worldwide, yet is not well understood. Endometriosis is as common as diabetes or asthma yet it doesn’t receive the funding necessary to develop effective treatments and cures. Women with endometriosis suffer significant loss of employment opportunities and lost productivity. In Australia, for example, it is estimated that endometriosis costs the economy $6,000,000,000*! Six Billion dollars! This is a huge loss to the women and their families and communities!
Endometriosis happens when endometrial cells settle inside the body cavity, they respond to the woman's hormones and bleed each month causing swelling, inflammation and adhesions. Internal organs can become obstructed and fused together causing even the slightest movement to be extremely painful.
You can participate in ‘Life with Endometriosis’ in 3 simple steps:
1. Tell me your story. It is totally up to you what parts of your life you tell me about - by email or message.
2. Make photos. I think about how to translate into photos and we discuss suggestions. We plan photo sessions and have fun taking photos.
3. Display photos. I prepare the photos for display. They can be used in talks about endometriosis, in art exhibitions and in an art photo book.
‘Life with Endometriosis’ is raising awareness by making endometriosis visible.
