Hijab Unravelled is a photography documentary about 31 Muslim women and their hijab. It documents what the hijab means to them, besides religion. The documentary is inspired by the online community of "hijabista's" (hijab+fashionistas) on Instagram and YouTube.
The documentary forms a unique image of its time and allows the viewer a glimpse into the world and lives of these women, not only in The Netherlands, but also in the UK, Belgium and Canada. The project doesn't aim to make a political statement, but a neutral perspective to help relieve the hijab of its stigmatised image. (Young) Muslims can have many different motives to wear a hijab.
