The 17th Street High Heel Race historically occurs the Tuesday before Halloween. It has become a piece of DC's rich LGBTQ+ history since 1986 with local drag queens as its main protagonist. DC is now one of the only jurisdictions in the nation to sponsor and host an event of this type that highlights the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. Thus, this project captures moments and experiences that the participants went through before, during and after this iconic race. It explores the camaraderie, the disappointments and the happiness of winning or just participating in such an event with other members of the community that have one common objective: have fun despite everything.
