Knowing that she was about to die, my aunt said that she would have less regret about leaving this world if she knew that she would still be able to send letters. I feel that my camera acts as an antenna –to receive signals carrying urgent messages from the lost lives and objects that fill the air around us. I believe that it is this frantic whispering of death that pushes me to take photographs, and enables me to continue living.
Death is an enduring taboo in our society, and yet it still seems to be our only reliable truth. I am drawn to the starkness of this subject in photograph as it strips away artificiality and rejects any acts of romanticism. The art of photography gives death permission to breath again as death, creating for it a new time and space to exist.
In this I am seeking something beyond myself which like death has the possibility to exceed the life contained within my body.
