Kleicy is 10 years old, living in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde. She goes to school, but when on vacation she spends her days with her grandmother, Natalia, who sells food and "grogue" (local brandy) to the workers at the harbour.
The workers spend their days there: chatting, and drinking. All of them are fathers, referring a longing for their children, despite all the technology that sometimes deprives us of some well deserved solitude and fools us into thinking we know everything about everyone.
And then there’s Kleicy, with a precocious weight to her eyes. Everyone looks out for her - making her their daughter, or their little sister. Distances and absences. Drunk and sober.
Kleicy plays, swims, sings, plays with their hair. But what version of these men will she find today? How do their stories shape hers? And could I tell her story by telling the stories around her?
